The session, sponsored by the Christian Values Initiative (CVI), the Muslim Employees Initiative (MEI) and the TI Jewish Initiative (TIJI), is the first in a TI Diversity Network (TIDN) Multi-faith Dialog Series. The series will include presentations by speakers of different faiths as well as visits to places of worship.

During the noon Oct. 2 session – in the South Campus Auditorium and by WebEx – Roberts will highlight 10 key principles for multi-faith relationships. Roberts is the founding pastor of NorthWood, an evangelical church that has 2,000 active members and is known for its humanitarian service in such places as Vietnam and Afghanistan.

Note that this session will also be broadcast in South Campus Conference Rooms S1 & S2 for those who want to eat during the presentation.

Goal Setting: The Key to Success

Read | Philippians 3:7-14

What three goals would you set for your life if you knew that you could achieve them? Would any of them be spiritual in nature? The apostle Paul was one of the most goal-oriented people in the Bible, yet he understood which pursuits were the most important. His chief ambition was to know Christ, His resurrection power, and the fellowship of His suffering (v. 10).

We'd all do well to adopt these goals, but they sound so broad. How do we put them into practice? First, it's important to comprehend that a goal is a purpose or direction toward which we work. This concept is fairly easy to understand when we're talking about specific objectives like going to bed earlier or losing ten pounds, but what steps would you need to take in order to achieve spiritual goals like Paul's?

Success requires choosing steps that are specific, reasonable, and measurable. For example, if you want to know Christ more intimately, you might commit to spending 30 minutes each day praying and reading His Word. After developing your plan and the steps to accomplish it, put your desire into action. If you don't take the necessary steps, it will simply remain a wish. No one develops intimacy with Christ through good intentions; it takes commitment, diligence, and perseverance.

If you feel as if your faith is lacking vitality, it may be that you've become spiritually lazy. No one intends to slip into complacency. But unless you set some specific goals and work to achieve them, you'll drift through life and miss the greatest accomplishment of all--learning to know Christ intimately.

Does God Want You to Succeed?

Is success a legitimate goal for believers? Is this something God wants for His children? The answers depend upon your definition of success. Many people define it as the achievement of wealth, prominence, or fame. If that's what you're seeking, then you are following the world's definition, not the Lord's.

In His eyes, true success begins internally--the first step is a relationship with Jesus, whereby you have trusted Him as Savior and are following Him obediently. His goal for you is ongoing growth in Christlike character and spiritual maturity, but that's not all. He also has some work for you to accomplish here on earth (Eph. 2:10). God planned these tasks specifically for you and designed them with your personality, talents, abilities, and spiritual gifts in mind. You could think of them as your unique calling and responsibility in life, which no one else can fulfill.

Genuine success involves doing what the Lord has called you to do, not just occasionally but continually. It has to do with persistence rather than perfection. When this is your definition of success, you can know that the Lord wants you to succeed--and is committed to helping you become the person He designed you to be and accomplish the goals He's set for you.

The ultimate evaluation of our success will take place when we stand before God and give account of our lives (Rom. 14:12). Any self-centered earthly achievements will be left behind. But if we've lived by His definition of success, our treasure will await us in heaven--along with the words "Well done!"

A Godly Response to Criticism

Read | Proverbs 15:31-33

No one likes criticism, but encountering some is inevitable, so we need to learn how to respond in a godly way. Although you might be tempted to become defensive or angry, remain calm and listen. The words may hurt, but great benefits come to those who carefully consider what is said.

If we refuse to accept reproof, we'll limit our potential for Christlike character development and spiritual growth. Some of life's best lessons come through difficult experiences. If God allowed the situation, you can be sure that He wants to use it in transforming you into His Son's image. Whether the criticism is valid or not, whether it's delivered with kindness or harshness, your goal should always be to respond in a way that glorifies the Lord. Remember that you are responsible only for how you handle yourself, not for how the other person is acting.

When a criticism comes your way, be quiet and listen until the other person has finished. Make direct eye contact to show attentiveness and respect. When your critic finishes, thank him for bringing his concerns to your attention, and tell him that you will consider what he's said. Ask the Lord if the accusation is valid. Let Him search your heart and either affirm your innocence or convict you.

Every rebuke is an opportunity from God. It's a chance to let your Christian character shine by showing love to your critic. If he is angrily attacking you, your respect and kindness become a powerful testimony. Criticism is also an occasion to humble yourself and accept the Lord's correction.

How to Handle Praise

How do you respond when someone compliments you? Some people absolutely love receiving praise because it lifts their spirits and makes them feel valuable. Others are uncomfortable with it. They look down at their feet or offer reasons why they really don't deserve such praise.

For Christians, there's another dilemma. We're called to be humble, so what are we to do when others say good things about us? Because pride is always waiting to raise its ugly head, we need to be careful not to let praise puff us up. Some believers think that accepting a compliment is a sign of pride, so they make a big show of giving all the glory to God. That's fine, if it's really what's in their hearts, but too often it becomes a rote "Christian" response that's geared to impressing others.

My advice is simply to say, "Thank you very much." Then whisper a prayer in your heart to the Lord, thanking Him for the blessing, recognizing that anything worthy of praise ultimately comes from Him. If you felt encouraged, let the person know how the comment blessed you. If you receive praise for an achievement that was really a group effort, be sure to redirect the compliment to all those who were involved. A blessing is always more enjoyable when it's shared.

Our character is tested by the praise that comes to us. Every compliment that bounces into our ears should quickly rebound up to the Father. If we hold onto it, the poison of pride will begin to infect our hearts. But if we pass the praise to God, humility takes up residence in our souls.

Read | Luke 12:11-12

When conflict occurs, the natural reaction is to blame someone else and defend yourself. But believers must respond differently. Once, I was publicly chastised for a wrong I had not committed. Thankfully, the Lord enabled me to remain calm rather than react angrily. Praying first isalways the best response in a crisis. When we do, God supernaturally provides that which we can t muster up ourselves.

• Spiritual discernment. The Lord, who perfectly understands the source of every problem, can give us insight beyond our limited perspective. Perhaps there's been a communication breakdown, a feeling of jealousy on the other person's part, or a mistake we unknowingly made. The Holy Spirit can show us how to approach our accuser and see beyond hurtful words or actions.
• A quiet spirit. Our human nature wants to react quickly so that we can defend ourselves. That's why we must first deliberately focus our attention on the Lord and experience the inward peace He alone makes available to us (John 14:27).
• Wisdom. Jesus told His disciples the Holy Spirit would give them wise words to say when they faced hostile authorities. He'll do the same for you. Ask Him to put a seal on your lips until He shows you what to say and when (Ps. 141:3).

We don't have to react to criticism with anger and self-protection the way the world does. Instead, we are called to represent Christ in every situation by depending on Him. In responding as He directs, we bring Him glory and cause unbelievers to want to know the source of our strength.

Canceling todays meeting

I think we should cancel today's CVI meeting due to the big site event people are preparing for and it seems we have a lot of Dallas folks in doing reviews and such and our conf room is being occupied.

Got Food?

Hi everyone, hope your day is going well. Take a sec right now and thank God for all of our blessings, we are so fortunate. Ok so, have you ever said to yourself "well I would like to help the poor and feed the hungry but you know I just don't have the time"? Well guess what? We are bringing that very opportunity to you right here at work, during your lunch hour, now what excuse do you have? Here's the deal, as you may know the Community Relations Team is putting on one of their awesome BBQs this Friday to help raise funds and awareness for various organizations such a the Komen rase for the cure, the American Heart Association (remember Don our guard just suffered a heart attack and had to have open heart surgery just last month, so its our friends and co-workers here) and others. And in combination with that we will be putting together additional "To Go" lunch boxes here on site to take out to the community and, you guessed it, feed the poor and hungry. Now what we need are volunteers to help assemble these boxes and fill with the food items. Our own Momchil Milev and Alan Johnson (and you if you like) will be taking these boxes out into the parks where these folks live and distributing them. What an awesome ministry and outreach for our CVI Group! This is what we do right? We serve others in need and its so easy. So who is going to step up to the plate and volunteer an hour of their precious time? We are all busy (don't get me started) but this will go super fast with more hands.

Holocaust Survivor to Share His Story at TI

On Thursday, March 8, TI employees will get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear Holocaust survivor Max Glauben talk about his experiences and discuss how what he went through can instruct us today.

Max will describe the horrors he experienced as a teenager before being liberated by the U.S. Army in 1945 while on a death march to the Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany.

The Stages of our faith

Hi everyone. Ok, hang in there and don't worry if you have missed some sessions on our Faith series, stay with us!

wonderful plan for your life. Are you willing?

Remember, God will honor your faith and give

you life at its very best. Therefore, thank the Lord

in every circumstance and praise Him that His

promises are already accomplished. This is the

surest way to have your faith perfected.

See what God has in store for you by giving him those things you want him to handle and have Faith, sit back and watch, then thank him!

Lunch anyone?

Hi, as a team building effort, all the Tucson Initiatives (Asian. Women's, and Indian) are going out to lunch at Sweet Tomatoes, on Broadway just before Park Mall, Tuesday, Feb 21st at 11:30 and all of you are invited. This is not a company sponsored lunch so you will have to pay for it yourself (just wanted to make sure there were no misunderstandings about that). No need to RSVP, just put it on your calendar and show up, we will be there.

Today's meeting in faith

Well it was what I would consider a "good" CVI meeting today, very inspirational and educational to which I will share with all of you what we got out of it.

What is Faith?

Faith is conviction of truth without tangible proof. The Bible says that "faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen"

(Hebrews 11:1). To have faith is to believe God's Word before it comes to pass. The acronym for theword faith says it best: Forsaking All I Trust Him.

You also had to have trust and a relationship with God. It is imperative that we read the Word of God as often as possible because that is where we gain the "knowledge" to strengthen our faith in God, that is where we are spoken to and encouraged. It was interesting to find, when asked around the table, that most of us have middle of road faith. We all want to strengthen our faith but at this point in time we all recognize the need for improvement. We also share struggles, whether it's how to know when God is intervening in our lives or not or having the strength to follow our heart for God or our heart for the world. 

The topic of works came up again and I think we all agreed that faith without works is dead. We explored "intellectual" faith vs "saving" faith and again, agreed that the one with a higher degree of "saving" faith understood that the works we do are to please God and are a natural consequence of having that savings faith.

The comforting thing was seeing how we are all in the same boat in regards to our faith, we all have bouts of the doubts, empty "feelings" at times and negative thoughts, but all have a driving desire to gain a stronger faith, a better relationship with God, and want to know how to  get to the next level.

By gathering together, we strengthen one another, uncover those ways to get closer to God and gain a better understanding of what faith really means to each of us. Like I said, it was a good session.

We are going to participate in a 6 part series by Charles Stanley via In Touch Ministries, http://www.intouch.org/, and so far have listened to the first sermon, the second one is what is in store for our next meeting, so come and join us as we have just started this study. You can listen to the first and second on from the website to catch up or if you can't make the meetings, you will be blesses.
