Friends and Colleagues

I hope you have all had a wonderful, blessed and restful Christmas holiday.  As you may or may not be aware, I expect to be leaving TI at the end of March.  I would like to meet as a group to determine the fate of the Tucson CVI and who  might want to take on the role of providing some guidance.  I was hoping we could meet for lunch or an early dinner in the coming weeks, perhaps on a Tuesday?  Maybe the 13th or 20th?  I am open to suggestions for dates, times and locations.  Please “reply all” with any and all inputs and suggestions.

God Bless you and Keep you

Prayer Request

Hi everybody,

I have a prayer request here for my girlfriend.

She is a U of Arizona student who just finished her sophomore year and went back to China for vacation. One of the things she needed to do in order to allow her to re-enter US to continue her study was to go through visa interview in Consulate General of United States (FYI, Chinese international students only have a 1 year visa, so they have to renew their visa if they go home after 1 year). The interview officer has requested a follow-up document from the International Student Office, which has resulted in a 2-week delay due to Christmas and New Year vacations. After the document was received, the Consulate notified her that she has to wait at least 3 weeks for any news (which really means 4 weeks because Chinese New Year gives the officers another week of vacation). Furthermore, the Consulate forbade any follow-up within that 3 weeks.

With all that said, this means the earliest date she can come back to Tucson is in mid Feb. Classes will start in mid January. A one month delay in classes might pose lots of difficulties in catching up with her studies. By not taking classes in Spring 2009 but wait until Summer 2009 to come back isn't an option because a discontinuity in period of study is ILLEGAL (based on visa rule).

Please pray for:
1. God will supernaturally arrange everything according to His mighty will and for His glory.
2. God will guard my girlfriend spiritually to prevent any further demonic influence on her life (She is in torment going through all these hardships).
3. God will reveal His wisdom to my girlfriend on how to walk closely with Him.

Thanks for praying.

FW: Nothing Can Hold you Back

I think this is excellent timing for what we are all facing right now. With God’s grace, love and care, we will all be those palms that grow stronger with each hard wind that comes along.  Let’s keep each other in our prayers as we know some of use already have release dates, and some of us are in very uncertain times. God Bless you, thanks Celeste for sending this out.

Hey folks,

There are days when times are tough like a huge storm.

But tough times really do seem to make us stronger in the end.

I thought this was a good scripture to read today from Joel Osteen’s ministries.

Tough times can help us flourish.  We just have to have faith.

Happy New Year!

I start off the year with this piece (above link) on religion in the workplace, diversity’s “forgotten child.” Why? Because like the world we live in, there’s

incredible religious diversity at TI. Plus for many, it is religion that guides and influences their workplace interactions, and is what many rely on during

times of stress and uncertainty.

In addition – and I point this out in the column – “faith-friendly” workplaces are on the rise and TI is clearly at the forefront of the movement.

You may also be interested in knowing that I’ve heard from a number of TIers of different religious backgrounds (and some non-believers too) over the

years and their message is clear – not only do they feel affirmed and appreciate TI’s acknowledgement of religion as an aspect of diversity but, as important, the

opportunities we provide for others to learn and express different viewpoints about these differences as a way of fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace.

As always, your comments on this topic – as well as others that are near and dear to you – are welcome. I look forward to hearing from you in the days, weeks and

months ahead.

Cheers!

Terry Howard, Diversity & Inclusion Director
